Wife arrested for burning husband to death

An elderly woman was arrested after she killed her husband by burning him.

Meanchey District Police Officers arrested the woman at 2 a.m. on November 14. She was arrested at her home located in Prek Tanou 2 Village, Chak Angre Leu Commune, Khan Meanchey, Phnom Penh. This is according to the reported of the General Commissariat of the National Police.

Police identified the suspect as 77-year-old Tean Sim, and the victim as Pov Mao, 85 years old, a pharmacist.

According to a source, at around 2 a.m. on the day of the crime, the victim Mao was sleeping in his house with Sim. When her husband was deep in sleep, Sim took the bottle of alcohol and poured half a liter of it on the mattress that Mao was sleeping on and on his body. After she poured the alcohol, Sim set the mattress aflame causing her husband to be burned along with it. Mao died before police could arrive.

When police arrived at the scene of the crime they found 1 bottle of alcohol, 2 lighters, a broom with a burnt handle, and the remains of the burnt mattress.

Police arrested Sim and brought her in for questioning at the Chak Angre Leu Sangkat Administration Post. The motive of the murder is still unknown.

The body of the victim was handed over to his relatives for funerary rites. The suspect is still in police custody awaiting trial.
