The UN envoy to Yemen pays his first visit to Taiz since the outbreak of the war
The United Nations envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, arrived in Taiz, southern Yemen, from Aden, as part of the first visit of a UN envoy to the city since the outbreak of war, seven years ago, between the Houthis and government forces. The UN envoy pointed to the suffering of civilians in Taiz from the deterioration of basic services, their economic conditions, and their deprivation of water and electricity, and expressed his regret for the incident that killed three children on the thirtieth of last month. Grundberg pointed out that there are many opportunities for obtaining peace initiatives, and reiterated the United Nations’ support for any efforts towards achieving peace in Yemen. The UN envoy confirmed that he will meet with the heads of all political party branches in Taiz, in addition to representatives of civil society organizations.
