Second day of Water Festival sees 70,000 people visiting Phnom Penh

While thousands are spending their holidays in provinces across the Kingdom, more than 70,000 decided to visit the Phnom Penh city on the second day of the Water Festival.

Met Meas Pheakdey, spokesman for the Phnom Penh Municipality Administration said many of the visitors thronged the resorts, garden city, riverside and many other tourist destinations in the capital.

He said he noticed large gatherings in certain places, with no compliance to social distancing, but people were wearing their face masks and carrying hand sanitizers to keep themselves safe.

“My fervent wish is for people to enjoy but taking into consideration the need to adhere to the 3 dos and 3 don’ts so as not to contract the Covid-19 virus. This is definitely a time to reunite with their families and enjoy the spirit of the festivity,” he added.

Ham Samnang, who was at the riverside near the Royal Palace said he is so happy to have come out with his family to enjoy the scenic beauty of the place and be entertained with the activities that was taking place on the second day of the festival.

He said that even though there was no boat racing, there were many people at the riverside.

“I made sure all my family members wore their facemask and avoided very crowded places. We kept our social distancing. We enjoyed the outing and at the same time took all the Covid-19 preventive measures so as not to contract the virus,” he added.
