Following complaints from residents of the area, Governor Sreng ordered the Khan Chbar Ampov Governor to inspect a sand dredging company whose activities are allegedly causing floods in the area.
Phnom Penh’s Governor, Khoung Sreng, ordered Chbar Ampov’s Governor to inspect the sand dredging activities of the company owned by Ohkhna Heng Ly. According to the complaints of the residents of O’Andong 1 Village, Sangkat Prek Pra, Khan Chbar Ampov, the water draining and sand dredging done by the company is causing their homes to get flooded.
This has apparently been happening for more than four months. The flood has caused people to vacate their homes and move in with other relatives, due to the stench of the drainage water and fear of the presence of venomous animals moving into their homes to flee the flood.
The complaint against the company was filed with nearly 40 signatories and submitted on November 16. They alleged the water draining and sand dredging of Oknha Heng Ly is causing their area to be flooded and causing difficulties to the residents.
The complaint states, “We, the residents of O’Andong 1 village, have been affected by the flooding of our houses for the past several months. This is caused by the sand dredging and water draining by a company owned by Oknha Heng Ly. The water of the lake overflows and floods the houses of all the people because there is no place for the water to flow out.”
Governor Sreng told local news on the evening of November 18, that the Governor of Chbar Ampov is currently inspecting and trying to solve the problem.
