Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, discussed with the United Nations Special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, the efforts exerted to reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis. Safadi pointed out the need to work systematically and effectively, stressing that Jordan will continue to work with the United Nations and regional and international partners to reach a political solution that preserves Syria’s unity and cohesion, restores its security and stability, rids it of terrorism and creates conditions for the voluntary return of refugees. Safadi noted the catastrophic repercussions of the crisis on Syria, its people, and the region, which pushes for activating efforts to adopt practical and realistic approaches, warning at the same time of the consequences of the decline in international support for refugees and the countries hosting them, given that providing a decent life for refugees is a shared responsibility of the hosting countries and the international community. For his part, the international envoy, Pedersen, confirmed to Minister Safadi his efforts to resolve the crisis, especially the outcomes of the last meeting of the Constitutional Committee, and praised the continued cooperation between the Kingdom and the United Nations to resolve the Syrian crisis, and thanked the Kingdom for its great humanitarian role towards Syrian refugees.
