First independent university launches in Raqqa
The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, has established Al Sharq University, the first university in Raqqa Governorate, to host university students who had their studies and education interrupted amid the war in the region. The university aspires to promote human values and increase students’ scientific competence, relying on the scientific research curriculum rather than indoctrination of knowledge, which is why it only accepts a small number of students. Al-Raqqa governorate had colleges and institutes affiliated with the University of Aleppo and Deir Ez-Zor, but there was no independent university, however, this is Syria’s fourth university in the north and east of Syria, and it includes the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Social Sciences, where around 210 students have enrolled in it this year.
