First equestrian Festival in Raqqa after Syrian crisis
In participation of numbers of horses from Syrian governorates under the control of the Syrian Democratic Forces such as Al-Hasakah, Deir Ezzor, Qamishli, and other cities, Raqqah city holds the first festival of purebred Arabian horses since the beginning of the war that the city witnessed. Horse races in the festival varied from 1000 meters to 5000 meters, and this is the city’s first equestrian experience after the war, especially after repairing the damage caused to the racetrack due to the aerial bombing and the exploitation of the equestrian venue for military purposes by ISIS. The people of Raqqa came to revive the festival since Raqqa is used to be the frontier city in this sport and was known for its horses before the outbreak of the crisis in Syria.
