Cambodia is in the process of developing a strategy to attract vaccinated tourists from Japan.

After the Royal Government announced the country’s readiness to begin accepting vaccinated tourists and the launch of the vaccination tourism in Koh Kong and Preah Sihanouk, the Ministry of Tourism continued the promotion of safe tourism. The Ministry is continuing to work on strategies of attracting tourists from countries deemed “Covid-19 safe countries,” which includes Japan.

The Minister of Tourism, Thong Khon, met with the Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia, Mikami Masahiro, on the afternoon of November 10 to discuss the expansion of the Cambodian-Japan Tourism Cooperation. Minister Khon expressed that the country is hoping to receive more tourists from Japan under the vaccination tourism, which was recently announced by the Royal Government.

Direct flights are being organized by the country between Japan and Cambodia. Aside from the direct flights, special arrangements are also being made for the travel of Japanese tourists to the areas which are opened for the vaccination tourists. These will also be implemented once Siem Reap will also be included in the vaccination tourism in January 2022. These are part of the strategy of attracting tourists from Japan.

Cambodian tour operators are also being urged to re-enter Japan as a destination for Cambodian tourists, as most Cambodians are fully vaccinated and can travel abroad safely.
