Cambodia: argument leads to ‘shootout’ between foreign nationals and police, leaves police officer shot in face
An argument led to shots exchanged between foreign nationals and police outside a Poipet casino last night.
The incident happened outside the Paradise Casino, Kbal Spean 1 Village, Sangkat Poipet City at 11:25 pm, November 20, 2021.
Reports are confused, but sources say that at least 15 Thai nationals were drinking together.
However, their convivial drinking turned into a violent argument, initially with each other and then with the police.
The argument started with beer bottles being thrown, but soon escalated into an exchange of small arms fire.
During the fracas, three people were injured – including a soldier, who was shot in the cheek and jaw and was seriously injured.
Police were then forced to use gunfire to suppress the situation.
After the melee, authorities arrested 15 of the perpetrators and are continuing to search for the remaining troublemakers.
