Around 37 Cambodians abandoned by brokers in forest

A group of Cambodians was found by authorities hunkered down in a forest near the Cambodian-Thai border after brokers took off with their money.

The group was found by the Thai border patrol forces in the forests at the country’s border. According to sources, the Cambodians were arrested by Thai forces at around 8:30 p.m. on November 9. The group was found in the forest at Phan Sek Commune, Aranyaprathet District, Sa Kaeo province, Thailand, which faces Malai District, Banteay Meanchey.

The Chief of the 815th Malai Border Guard Battalion, Col. Suong Sao, on November 10 at 8 a.m. that the Thai squadron reported that it had arrested 37 Cambodians, including 19 females. After the arrest, Thai authorities sent the Cambodians to Khlongnamsai Provincial Police for further legal processing.

The Cambodian workers confessed that they were cheated by their brokers. They reportedly paid around $30 each for the broker’s services. They continued that the broker left them in the forest in Thai territory and returned back to Cambodia.
