Yemeni Students Carry Food Bags As School Bags

As a result of suffering and human tragedy experienced by students in Yemen, students in the city of Midi in Hajjah governorate turned empty bags of flour and rice into school bags to keep their books. According to the school principal (Abdullah Tayeb): one third of more than 350 male and female students do not have bags or school uniforms due to the deteriorating economic conditions of most parents. Therefore, most of them replaced bags of flour and rice as bags to keep their school supplies, pointing out that there are a number of students who come to school barefoot. According to the Directorate of Education in the governorate, there are about 26 schools in Hajjah Governorate that have been completely destroyed, 17 of which are completely in the districts of Midi and Hiran and other schools that need restoration due to the severe damage occurred. And according to the International Committee of the Red Cross in Yemen, there are more than 2,500 schools that have been damaged or destroyed due to the conflict in various regions of Yemen, which has deprived more than 2 million students of education.
