Explosion rocks neighbourhood after fuel tanker gone wrong

A run-of-the-mill fuel tanker truck turned dangerous after the fuel was transferred to the wrong tank causing a huge explosion and fire.

Residents of Chheu Teal Village, Chheu Teal Commune, Banan District, Battambang were alarmed by an explosion in their village after an explosion went off and subsequent fire destroyed properties. This happened on October 20, at around 4 p.m.

Preliminary investigations by authorities at the scene showed that before the incident, a petrol truck loaded with fuel was transferring fuel into a tank. Suddenly there was a spark that ignited the fuel. A huge fire and explosion broke out at the petrol station and flames spread throughout the property.

The fire damaged a two-story house that had stored construction materials and petrol. The owner of the house was identified as Man Chai, a trader. Immediately after the fire broke out, the firefighting brigade of the district police inspectorate intervened and put out the fire.

The full extent of the damage by the double whammy is not yet known. Investigations are still being conducted.
