Cambodia’s Pailin residents warned of possible flooding as rivers and streams swell

Less than a month after Banteay Meanchey’s and widespread flooding and Preah Vihear’s flood warning, another border province is in danger of possible flooding.

Pailin’s Department of Water Resources and Meteorology sent out a warning to the residents of the province, particularly those living along streams and rivers, to keep an eye out for any possible flooding.

On the evening of October 15, the Department of Water Resources and Meteorology of Pailin quickly informed the people to increase their vigilance and attention to the water levels along the streams and rivers. The people were also informed to secure any valuable belongings from any possible damage from floods.

This announcement came after Pailin experienced rainfall form more than 10 hours. The rainfall measures between 50 to 60 mm and caused the rivers and streams to rise. Currently, the department is keeping a close eye on the situation.

Pailin is the latest province to report that it was affected by the effects to Typhoon KOMPASU, with Koh Kong being the last province to report that it was affected. Koh Kong’s authorities reported that the city of Khemarak Phoumin was flooded, and the flooding was compounded by poor sewer and water drainage system.
