Cambodian government trying to rescue two Cambodian women facing domestic abuse from China
The Ministry of Interior reported that it is in the process of rescuing two Cambodian women who were cheated by brokers and facing abuse from their Chinese husbands.
After a video clip of a Cambodian woman who suffered abuse at the hands of her Chinese husband circulated widely in Cambodian social media in September, the government of Cambodia intervened to bring her back home. Now the Royal Government has announced that they are in the process of rescuing two more Cambodian women who are living under the same conditions.
The Secretary of State of the Ministry of Interior and Permanent Vice-Chair of the National Committee for Combating Human Trafficking, Chou Bun Eng, told local news on October 13 that the government is ready to intervene in the above case after all the information pertaining to the matter is collected.
“As the Royal Government, we really want to help the people, but at the same time we want to protect the real victims and take measures to prevent them from happening,”, the Secretary said.
The planned intervention came after the two women who claimed to be victims of brokers who cheated them and severe abuse from their husbands called on the Prime Minister to rescue them through a video on social media. With tears streaming down their faces in the video, the women said that they are currently in Guangzhou, China and that they have no food.
The first victim is Chheun Sophay, born in Kasem Village, Bos Khnour Commune, Chamkar Leu District, Kampong Cham. The second victim is Lin Savon, born in Masen Village, Pahal Commune, Tbeng District, Preah Vihear.
Through TikTok, the victim said, “Hello everyone, I have been in China for five years. I was cheated by the broker. So I am asking for Samdech Bun Rany and Samdech Hun Sen to help take me to Cambodia. This is my phone number 19979098645. “
