Flood levels in Banteay Meanchey province have dropped in the last two days, and authorities are delivering emergency assistance to displaced people.

According to National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM), floods have affected 18,715 families in 38 communes of six districts and town, including 1,150 families that have been evacuated to safer areas.

Provincial Department of Information director Sek Sokhom said that among the families placed in safer areas, 400 are in Sisophon town and around 500 are in Mongkol Borei district.

“The flood happened in many parts [of the province], but there are also many safe places to accommodate affected people.

“But due to Covid-19, authorities do not want to place too many people in one area. So, only in severely flooded places are people evacuated,” he said.
