Cambodia will soon be receiving 3 million more doses of vaccine to add to its existing stock as the government attempts to expedite the country’s vaccination campaign.

The Secretary of State of the Ministry of Health, Youk Sambath, reported that another 3 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines are bound for Cambodia and will be arriving on the morning of September 28. This is the last of the 9 million batches of vaccines that were ordered by the government from China on the month of September.

The vaccines that will be arriving are allocated for the vaccination campaign of children aged 6 to 11. While the targets for the other earlier campaigns are not far from being accomplished, the vaccination campaign for the younger demographics is fairly new and is relatively far from achieving the goal.

According to the Secretary, Cambodia had a total of 35,5 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The vaccines came from purchases and donations. The Secretary continued that Cambodia will be receiving 3 million more doses of vaccines on October, which is a donation from the Chinese Government through the Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, Wang Yi.

This is the latest donation from China towards Cambodia’s fight against Covid-19. To date, the Kingdom have received 26.8 million doses of vaccines from China.

According to latest figures, the total number of vaccinated people in the country is at 13.1 million. Despite the number of vaccinated people, the vaccination campaign for people aged 18 and above have slowed down and the target has yet to be reached.

With less than 200,000 doses to be administered before the target of 10 million vaccinated people in the 18 and above age bracket, hope is still being held out the number will be achieved before October.
