Heavy rain on Sunday (Sept 26) night triggered floods in three villages in Sungai Siput, causing 97 villagers to be evacuated to relief centres.

The floodwaters rose to almost one metre in Kampung Chior and Kampung Tok Sirat in Lasah and Kampung Lintang at about 8.30pm that night, according to a spokesman for the Perak Fire and Rescue Department.

He said in a statement on Monday (Sept 27) the relief centres were set up at Dewan Tok Sirat, SK Lasah and Dewan Kampung Lintang, and that the people were brought to safety with the help of firefighters and villagers.

The floodwaters began to recede in the morning after the rain stopped but the firefighters would continue monitoring the situation, he added.
