An 18-year-old Mathayomsuksa 6 student hanged himself in his room at his grandparents’ house in Bua Yai district on Tuesday night, leaving a suicide note, police said.

Relatives found him hanging by a rope around his neck about 7pm.

Police and medics from Bua Yai Hospital rushed to the house at Non Kaphi village in tambon Non Thong Lang on being informed.

They boy’s nickname was Dew. Other details were withheld.

Relatives told the police that Dew had earlier shut himself in his room. Shortly before 7pm they called for him to come out to eat, but the boy did not respond.

They went into the room and found the youth hanging from a rope. They cut the rope and lowered him down, but he was already dead.

A suicide note, addressed to a friend called Puk, was found in the room.

The relatives believed Dew had been stressed by having to take his lessons online at home. The village had also been placed in lockdown for 14 days to contain the spread of Covid-19.

Dew lived in the house with his grandparents because his father and mother were away working in Bangkok. He had no one to look to for advice, relatives said.

Dew’s body was sent to Bua Yai Hospital for a postmortem examination.
