The Iraqi Council of Representatives halted the work of the Human Rights Commission due to the expiration of its official term without identifying a substitute for it to execute its oversight role in this field. “Ali Akram”, a member of the Commission, revealed the existence of major violations in human rights files within the Iraqi security institutions and prisons, attributing this to the multiplicity of arrest and investigation bodies without referring to the judiciary, as well as the issuance of judgments against the convicted without the knowledge of their families or the appointment of a lawyer for them for a long period. About the files of enforced disappearance, Akram stated that after ISIS occupied Iraq, thousands of complaints and allegations were raised without consideration or investigation.
