36 Chinese nationals arrested for illegally entering Cambodia via sea

36 Chinese nationals were arrested when the ship carrying them was boarded by by border police in waters off Sihanoukville.

According to police sources, the Koh Rong Samloem border police force stopped the large steel vessel on the 24th of July.

The ship hailed from the the port of Po’an on Xiaori island, Fujian Province, China and had made a journey of approximately 2,000 nautical miles.

2 Cambodians were also on the ship – named as Sim Pheng Kiphet. Male, 39 years old, from Kampong Sambo village, Samrong Phnom commune, Ek Phnom district, Battambang province and Phan Reach, Male, 22 years old from Takuy ​​Village, Battambang City, Battambang Province.

After a COVID test, the occupants of the boat were sent to the General Department of Immigration for processing.

It is not known what reasons the Chinese nationals had for coming to Cambodia.
