Mining around the Victoria reservoir are among the main causes of recent earthquakes

Many earthquakes occur around the Victoria Reservoir in Dijana, which is known as one of the largest reservoirs in Sri Lanka.

Earthquakes are causing panic among residents near Victoria Reservoir, and some citizens believe that the earthquakes are caused by dolomite mining around the reservoir, the earthquakes has been registered below 3 on the Richter scale.

The authorities temporarily stopped mining in the area within 100 meters of the reservoir, this issue is being investigated by experts in the time being, However, a large number of people working in the dolomite mining industry, as well as the people of the region are living under the fear that their lives are in danger.
