Although markets in Qamishli are crowded with shoppers ahead of Eid al-Adha, the soaring prices of goods made it difficult for shoppers to afford to purchase Eid preparations. Rising prices are mainly attributed to the plummet in the Syrian currency’s value along with closing down border crossing that restricted trade movement. Shoppers complained about the rise in prices of Eid sweets and clothes, indicating that all though markets are highly crowded, the purchasing power is remarkably low
