The first sessions of the trial of the former head of the Jordanian Royal Court, Basem Awadallah, and Sharif Hassan bin Zaid, in the “sedition” case, began on Monday, The defendants will appear before the State Security Court in Amman, nearly three months after their arrest. The first secret trial is likely to witness the recitation of the allegations and the hearing of witnesses for the Public Prosecution, as the trial is expected to take 4 to 6 months, according to legal sources. On June 13, the Public Prosecutor of the State Security Court charged Awadallah and Sharif Zaid with opposing the current political rule in the Kingdom, and with conducting acts that endanger the safety and security of society and causing sedition, while Sharif Hassan is also facing a misdemeanor Possession and use of narcotics.
