The Iraqi Minister of Electricity, Majid Hantoush, submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, on Tuesday, for unknown reasons, and with the absence of official clarification from the Ministry of Electricity; however, the acceptance of the resignation has not yet been decided by Al-Kazemi. The circumstances of the resignation coincided with the ministry’s failure to provide citizens with electricity during high temperatures. Observers’ opinions varied about Hantoush’s resignation, some made it clear that it is subject to a political will not a national one, while others pointed out that the resignation would not resolve the electricity crisis that has been rooted for 18 years, but rather confirms the failure of successive governments despite spending huge amounts of money on projects shrouded in corruption and waste of public money.
