Illegal immigrants to Thailand are hiding in plastic containers on trucks

Eleven illegal job seekers from Myanmar were caught on Sunday in plastic containers in the back of a delivery truck in the Sai Yok district of this western border province. At around 3:30 p.m., a combined civil and military police unit signaled a van to stop on Tha Madua-Lam Sai Road near Moo 2 Village in Tambon Si Mongkol, Sai Yok District. The driver tried to escape at full speed but stopped after the authorities pursued him. During a search, five people were found hiding in a 1,000-liter plastic tank and two more in each of the two 200-liter barrels in the rear of the truck. Two other Myanmar citizens sat in front with the Thai driver. None of them had travel documents.
