Almost a million methamphetamine tablets were seized and a suspect was arrested Monday night by a Mekong River Unit (MRU) patrol of the Navy following a car chase. Patrol units were used to intercept along the border highways. Late on Monday evening, a patrol spotted a four-door Isuzu pickup truck driving from Ban Song Khon in Mukdahan’s Tongon Pong Kham to Na Kae. The Marines motioned the vehicle to stop to search, but instead it sped away and told them to chase it. The van stopped near a village in Na Kae district and the driver fled. A search of the truck found three bags of 972,000 methamphetamine tablets with a street value of about 10 million baht. A man identified as Chart Meesri, 50, from the Khukhan district of Si Sa Ket province, was found at MRU Nakhon Phanom Station, Thailand. In the past three months, more than 5 million methamphetamine tablets have been confiscated in Nakhon Phanom, he said.
