“Manhattan of the Desert “-Shibam City is Distinguished by its Vertical Construction

Best known as “Manhattan of the Desert”, Shibam city is an archeological site located in the heart of Hadramaut. The town is distinguished by being the oldest skyscraper city in the world, whose houses are made out of mud-brick that stretch up to several stories. These durable houses were made of cob material that includes soil, hay, and water mixture.
