The World Health Organization (WHO) recently announced that Vietnam’s national NRA has reached maturity level 3, which is the second highest level in the World Health Organization’s classification of national regulatory agencies.
It is performed by the Global Benchmark Tool (GBT), and many functions are valid.
In April 2015, the WHO Vaccine Evaluation Tool, Vietnam’s vaccine regulatory agency, conducted an investigation into the “status”.
In November 2018, an international team of experts was organized to re-evaluate the NRA in southern Vietnam using new benchmark functions and a more comprehensive GBT version (version 5).
It requires national regulators, including those accredited by the World Health Organization in 2015, to make major efforts to improve their systems.
The GBT assessment results range from 1 to 4. The maturity level 2 is the basic operation comprehensive supervision system of national supervision. The highest maturity level 4 is achieved through an organizational system with advanced performance and continuous improvement levels.
Vietnam reserves all rights and therefore becomes a regional and global vaccine supplier.
In the last evaluation, the NRA has approved 8 out of 9 positions as level 3 maturity for vaccine regulation.
