Vietnamese President hosts ASEAN diplomats in Hà Nội

President Nguyen Xuan Phuc received the ambassador and the charge d’affaires of the ASEAN member states from Hanoi on Tuesday because they came to congratulate him on his election as the chairman of Vietnam.

Brunei’s Ambassador to Vietnam, Pengnanlan Pengjilan Haji Sahari bin Pengnanlan Haji Sall (Brunei will assume the chairmanship of ASEAN this year) expressed his appreciation for Vietnam’s achievements in pandemic control and socio-economic development.

He said that he is confident that the country will continue to make new achievements and raise its level on the regional and global stages.

The diplomat reviewed the achievements of Vietnam as the chairman of ASEAN and praised its major contribution to the establishment of the ASEAN community, the prevention of the pandemic, and the expansion of foreign relations.

He believed that President Puku will continue to work hard to deepen the unity and cooperation between ASEAN and Vietnam and other group members.

In response, Putz said that joining ASEAN has always been a priority in Vietnam’s diplomacy, and the friendship with EU sovereignty has become the basis for Vietnam’s transformation of relations.

He said that cohesion and a proactive spirit of adaptation have helped ASEAN overcome difficulties, especially when COVID-19 may have a possible socio-economic impact in the region.

Based on this spirit, he pointed out that mutual solidarity and cooperation and the promotion of the central role of ASEAN are the key to overcoming the obstacles to building a strong and prosperous ASEAN community.

He promised to continue to enhance the friendship between Vietnam and ASEAN countries, implement the realization of the ASEAN Community in 2025, and contribute to the sustainable development of Southeast Asia.

The President also expressed the hope that diplomats will continue to play their important pillar role and enhance the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and other ASEAN countries.

He also had the opportunity to extend greetings to Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand during the traditional New Year holidays, and to extend Ramadan greetings to Muslim countries in ASEAN.
