Vietnam tries to reduce plastic waste and alternative marine litter

Vietnamese authorities and international organizations discussed ways to reduce plastic waste and marine debris in Vietnam at a seminar in Vietnam on Friday.

The delegates introduced the work of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE), the Vietnamese authorities of the European Union and French experts in policy formulation and the implementation of four pilot projects in HCM city, Hanni and Puín provinces. He added that these four pilot activities supplemented the specific actions and experience of communities and households, local enterprises and administrative departments through specific actions and experiences on a local scale, and provided a supplement to these efforts in circular economy.

These activities are carried out under the “reconsideration of the plastic-marine garbage circular economy solution”, which is led by French professional technology companies with financial support from the European Union and the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development.

Every year, the country is estimated to dump 300,000-700,000 tons of plastic waste into the ocean every year, accounting for 6% of the world’s ocean plastics.

The country has set a goal of zero plastic waste by 2025.

It has adopted a development strategy to promote marine economic development while protecting the marine environment and ecosystems, which clearly states that “preventing, controlling and significantly improving marine environmental pollution; becoming a regional pioneer in reducing marine plastic waste” is the country’s 2030 The goal of the year.
