Sri Lanka Minister of sports: 100 scholarships for athletes in the next two years to prepare them to register athletes as foreign sports training programs

Youth and Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa (Namal Rajapaksa) stated that a number of scholarships will be provided to athletes in the next two years, and the government hopes that these athletes can participate in sports training programs abroad.

The Minister said today (20th) that this is a response to a question raised by Shantha Bandara M.P in Parliament.

He mentioned that the National Sports Committee led by Mahela Jayawardena had put forward the “National Sports Plan” and further realized that this was the first professional contract for athletes.

The minister said that 59 athletes from different sports will be signed in the first round and 50 athletes will be signed in the second round. Recruiting students.

Minister Rajapaksa also added that 20% of the funds allocated to the Sports Ministry in this year’s budget will be used to improve the level of athletes and coaches. It will increase to 25% next year and 50% by 2025, replacing it to enhance infrastructure and athletes’ progress.

In addition, the minister’s representative said that the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Sports have jointly initiated various programs to strengthen sports activities in schools. In fact, a plan will be implemented in May to identify school athletes in different regions.
