The Magat Dam in northern Luzon is scheduled to release water from the reservoir again at around 6 am on Tuesday morning.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) hydrologist Edgar dela Cruz (Edgar dela Cruz) said that the leak was to anticipate that Magat might receive Typhoon Bising (international name Surigae). Rainfall is expected to have been over the waters north of Luzon this week.
He said on Monday: “This is a preventive measure to prevent the Magat River from rising to the normal high level of the dam.”
He said that the water in Magat is easy to rise because this small dam flows a lot in the rain in the big basin.
He said: “Even a small amount of rain will cause the water level in Magat to react.”
