Closing Down Al Tabqah Crossing Causes Hefty Losses for Greengrocers

Amid soaring prices following the Syrian regime’s decision to close down Al Tabqah crossing that connects regime-held areas to SDF-held areas, greengrocers in Ar Raqqah are struggling to stay afloat. Greengrocers complained that the crops they receive are mostly rotten because of the considerable route they pass through before reaching the merchants, accordingly, they were coerced into obtaining crops through smuggling which cost them hefty amounts. According to the co-chair of the Autonomous Administration’s Executive Council, Hamad Al-Abd, the crossing closure was spurred for advancing political, military, and financial aims, as to bring the self-administration under the Russian grip
