The precautionary measures announced by the Cambodian Prime Minister to curb the spike of the pandemic stopped citizens from celebrating the Khmer New Year, which falls on April 14-16 of each year. The government decided to impose daily curfews in the capital Phnom Penh for two weeks, from 8 pm to 5 am, in addition to banning citizens from traveling to and from other governorates during the Khmer New Year, and the sale of alcohol to avoid the gatherings that occur every year. Citizens voiced their support for the government’s decisions aimed at curbing the spread of the virus.
