Officials said flash floods caused by heavy rain on Saturday night displaced 71 families in three low-lying villages here.
City Disaster Reduction and Management (MDRRMO) planning officer Eric Sarabia said on Sunday that affected families are currently being housed in designated evacuation centers in the city.
The flooded areas include parts of Barangay Luayon, where there were 37 impacted families; Sta. Filomena has 32 impact families; and Bulacanon, two families.
Sarabia said: “Our office staff and social welfare workers are now conducting assessments and relief operations for the affected families in the area.”
According to MDRRMC’s initial report, a part of the newly built dam collapsed on the Malasila River in Barangay Bulacanon, causing flooding and flooding of three adjacent villages.
“At six o’clock in the afternoon last Saturday, we received a call saying that due to heavy rain, the water level of the Marasila River is rising.” Sarabia said.
In response, he said that they also found that three suspension bridges were partially damaged due to flooding.
The mayor of Armando Kibod said that the town government is currently assessing the overall loss of crops and property caused by the flood and providing more relief assistance to affected families.
Quibod urged voters, especially those living near river banks, to stay vigilant and stay away from areas prone to landslides.
He said that Governor Nancy Catamco will visit the city to get more help from the provincial government.
According to the provincial DRRMO, other towns affected by the flooding are M’lang, Antipas and Tulunan, and their damage assessment is also in progress.
