The work of the first Baghdad International Water Conference has started in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, with the participation of governmental and international officials and United Nations water organizations, as well as the Arab League and the riparian countries with Iraq, from 13 to 14 March, to discuss water and food security. The conference is held under the slogan (planning and rational management use of water resources to achieve sustainability), to transform challenges into opportunities that lead to saving and sustaining water for future generations. On the first day of the conference, several topics were discussed; including strategic planning, integrated management of water resources, water, and food security at the internal and external levels, climate impact challenges, regional and international cooperation to reduce water shortages, the impact of terrorism on the water system and ways to avoid its risks, and mitigating the impact of natural disasters.
