Ulaanbaatar is the coldest capital in the world where the temperature reaches below -40 °C in winter. However, there is one family that enjoys a comfortable house without any stove, and don’t burn any coal originated fuel for heat in Ger District, which constitutes around 60% of the Mongolian capital, Ulaanbaatar, because the house is built to the Passive House Standard, with 45 cm thick insulated wall and triple glassing windows, filled with Argon gas, and equipped with Energy Recovery Ventilation technology and 4.5 kW Photovoltaic (PV) system. The house obtains most of the energy directly from the Sun.
