The US Treasury Department has imposed sanctions against the leader of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces and former National Security Adviser, Faleh al-Fayyad, over his involvement with significant human rights violations. Treasury Secretary, Stephen Mnuchin, stated that Iran’s politicians and allies like Faleh al-Fayyad have directed and managed the killing of peaceful Iraqi protesters in Iraqi civil society. The sanctions on al-Fayyad were imposed in the lights of Executive Order No. 13818, which allows the prosecution of human rights violators around the world and the corrupt groups.  Fayyad is among notable Iraqi officials who Washington has imposed sanctions on.
