Suicide attempts became a rampant phenomenon in Iraq, as daily news report new cases. The Brigadier General of the Family Department at the Ministry of Interior, Ali Khalil pointed out that suicide attempts became widespread using various methods including hanging, burning, shooting, or taking lethal pills. Activist Nida Al Kaabi illustrated that the rise in suicide attempts is attributed to the economic reality, family problems, and in some cases due to Cyber extortion which has spread on social media outlets, in which victims would commit suicide  out of fear of a scandal in a strict tribal community.
