The spokesperson for the Southern Transitional Council, Nizar Haitham, confirmed that the declaration of self-administration in the south came as a step to fix the situation, protect citizens and improve basic services, noting that it had not been a goal of the council since its announcement in April this year.
The government and the separatist Southern Transitional Council (STC), which is backed by the United Arab Emirates, are the main Yemeni forces in a Saudi-led anti-Houthi coalition. But the Yemeni allies have been in a standoff since last August when the STC took over Aden.
