Doha embraces signing of a historic agreement between Washington and Taliban

The Qatari capital, Doha, hosts a meeting, on Saturday to sign a historic agreement between Washington and the Taliban, in the presence of the American Secretary of State and representatives of the movement.

This agreement, which has been negotiated for more than a year, paves the way for the withdrawal of thousands of American soldiers from Afghanistan, after 18 years of war, and opened the door for dialogue between the Kabul government and the Taliban.

On Friday, US President Donald Trump also urged Afghans to “seize the opportunity for peace,” saying, “If the Taliban and the Afghan government are up to the commitments, we will go ahead to end the war in Afghanistan and bring our soldiers home.”
