Clashes took place between Afghan forces and Taliban militants as the forces tried to reach a central area in which a US military plane crashed and is a stronghold of the Taliban, after the American army confirmed on Monday that a military plane had crashed in Ghazni province, but denied what the Taliban announced it had shot down.
